Something to Do On a Rotten Day In Brighton
September 5, 2010 on 4:08 am | By admin | In 179 | Comments OffBrighton Short Breaks is a main lover of Brighton Museum, which renders a top destination for both the Brighton and Hove visitor and the resident for a number of reasons and not least the architectural spectacle of the edifice itself.
Set n the splendiferous grounds of the Royal Pavilion grounds, its architecture owes a good deal to the inheritance and vogue of the Pavilions architect, John Nash, repeating and reverberating some of the grandness and flights of fantasy that the Pavilion embodies. But its origins arent quite so glorious as the building itself once housed the stalls for the Royal Residence, although mayhap the most breathtaking stables to endure in the United Kingdom!
As the splendid Brighton and Hove Museum site informs us : ‘Brighton Museum was founded by local brewer and social reformer Henry Willett. He was an zealous accumulator of pottery and porcelain and Mr Willett’s Popular Pottery showcases his collection.’
This is the easiest internet site for getting information on the opening times and special exhibitions that are housed within the museum, but the most remarkable piece of information is this: Admission is Free! So another grand way to pass an afternoon if the conditions isn’t the best, and a way that wont distort the purse!
The museum is maybe better suited to somewhat older kids as it doesn’t house too many of the ‘child attention grabbers’ that so many other museums put up. However that is not to say that there isnt a wealth of material there to take hold of their attention – but a little and often approach path might offer the best way to get the most out of this great local draw.
As you would ask there’s a luck of smashing local chronicle covered within the Museum and on the top floor there are plenty of resources for following local history or personalized family history – so another possible project for the family to enjoy on a damp afternoon.
